Tennessee inches ever closer to Cutcliffe

That's what the Knoxville News Sentinel is seeing and saying: "Duke head coach David Cutcliffe will be named Tennessee's next head coach barring a last-second snag in negotiations ..." Head on over to GoVolsExtra for the rest.

2 hours ago I would have agreed with this report. Now I'm not so sure. New rumors are slowly leaking out.....BTW this is killing me!

C'mon, Tennessee, don't steal Cutcliffe from Duke! They're finally starting to build their program a bit again and this would really hamper that progress, if not halt it altogether.

However, if I was Cutcliffe, I'd probably be gone if the job offer is legitimate.

I'd like Cut to stay at Duke too. The AD at UT does not really get along well with CDC. I think he is the "back burner" option. H has said he will come, but the deal is not done. Hamilton the AD did a lot of smokescreens befoe the weasle hire. Most Vol fans hope this is the case again. Lots of names are being floated, but the trueth is maybe a hand ful of people know for sure and they are not talking and may be in the air...

Let's see... Stay at Duke, where 7 wins and a Meineke Bowl is the absolute best you can ever hope to achieve, or go to Tennessee, compete in the best conference, with quality facilities, tradition and access to real recruits.... Hmmm, whatever shall I do?

Why Tennessee wants the Duke coach is beyond me, but if I were him I would be able to sprout wings and fly to Knoxville. Total no-brainer, if it's true.

Let's see... Stay at Duke, where 7 wins and a Meineke Bowl and consistent 7-8 win seasons would lead to them making a bronze statue of you, or go to Tennessee, compete in the best conference, with quality facilities, tradition and access to real recruits, win 8-10 games and have it not be good enough, for a fan base that is making it clear now that they don't really want you back as HC....Hmmm, whatever shall I do?

To top it off, Hamilton seemed hell bent on telling Cutcliffe who would be on his staff.

Not a great way to resume a relationship that is apparently rocky to begin with.

Cutcliffe would come, but he is basically a fall back candidate. No Vols fan under 40 want CDC. He is not a recruiter and none of his staff are either. Only the old guard, wants Cut..... Hamilton is throwing up some smoke screens, not sure how good of an AD he is very good at hiding his intentions.

Also, isn't it funny how these national pundits are basically guessing and getting info off message boards, not a shot at the Expats, but the national sources (and Hymes and Basillio).
