Your 2011 SEC football schedule

Anticipation begins... now.

And if you'd rather see it in grid form... here.

Alabama-Penn State, LSU-Oregon, Georgia-Boise, plus the usual conference mayhem. We can't wait. What games are you looking forward to?

The Cocktail Party decides the East winner in Jacksonville. South Carolina has trips to Athens, Knoxville, and Fayetteville along with home dates with Auburn and Florida...sorry Steve.

The West goes through the land of the corndog and the mad hatter, even with their tough out of conference schedule.

Darkhorse...Mississippi State. They get both LSU and Bammer in Starkville. They may not win the west, but they will have a big say in who does win it.

As usual, with the exception of LSU-Oregon, Alabama-Penn State and Georgia-Boise State, the rest of the SEC plays a pathetic non-conference schedule. Come on, guys, you are supposed to be the top conference in America...act like it. When was the last time Florida played anyone good at the front of its schedule? Even Tennessee drops UNC. Cowards!

John,

A handful that you apparently missed: Auburn plays Clemson, Arkansas plays a nice Texas A&M team, LSU also has perennial bowl team West Virginia, and Florida happens to play potential No. 1, Florida State.

John: If you read this blog, you know that I don't like Auburn. Nor do I harbor much sympathy when they encounter hardship.

But for the sake of your argument, let's take a closer look at the AU schedule.

Yes they play Utah State and Florida Atlantic in the first month.

But in the first eight weekends, they also play Miss State (preseason Top 25), at Clemson, at South Carolina (preseason Top 10). at Arksansas (preseason Top 25), Florida (ditto), and at LSU (preseason Top 5).

They have a late game with Samford, sure, but it's sandwiched by Georgia and Alabama (preseason Top 5). I hope they lose them all.

Every BCS team packs cupcakes in their lunchboxes, and the SEC is no different. But we're the best conference because we have more big games week to week than any two leagues combined.

My prediction: Alabama versus Georgia in the SEC Championship game. This assumes UGA gets its quarterback healthy for the season. Richt will be coaching for his life. Meanwhile, my Crimson Tide defense will be NASTY. There is a lot of experience on the offensive line, and a great deal of talent at running back. If we get decent quarterback play, it will be a great season because the schedule isn't quite as daunting as last year.

SEC's non-conference formula for success: schedule 3 cupcakes and 1 school people have heard of.

I have to laugh when people complain about strength of schedule in the SEC. When Alabama won the national championship in 2009, its strength of schedule was 2....second only to Mississippi State. And as much as it pains me to say it, I think Auburn's strength of schedule was top 20 in 2010. Go bark up some other tree. The SEC takes all comers, and beats most of them.
