SEC's new St. Louis media outpost weighs in on BCS

If SEC football fans aren't familiar with Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, they soon will be.

Since Missouri joined the party, Miklasz has been writing more about Southern football. And while he acknowledges an early addiction to the Paul Finebaum Show -- Courage, Bernie, there's help available -- he normally writes an informed column that's never short on opinion.

His take on The Rematch: Why the outrage?

I have an argument about the rematch that no one is making.

The problem is the free pass the first game is getting. It was NOT, repeat, underline, bold-face and italicize, NOT, a "great game" or "great defensive struggle." 'Bama missed 4 field goals and Coach CBC had a temporary Alzheimer's moment and thought Maze was a QB. Some of Mad Hater's play-calling, particularly in the red zone, was straight out of an Art Bell radio broacast.

Hey, I can dig a great defensive battle as much as anyone. But the 9-6 score was borne every bit as much of offensive ineptitude as defensive prowess. I spent as much time in the second half switching over to the Pigs-Fightin' Chickens game as watching the "Game of the Century." In the other game, they were doing things like catching foward passes and advancing the football actually over the goal line and through the goal posts.

It's all a moot point anyway, as there is no way 'Bama is going to catch LSU playing rotten football like they did in round one, and there is little doubt in my mind that LSU is going to win. 'Bama will provide a smaller margin of defeat than Ok. St or any of the other contenders, so in my mind that's how they end up getting the spot in the game.

But let's not pretend the first game was some classic masterpiece, OK?

PS - if you want all the proof you need that the current system is broken, you find it in the major bowl lineup. How does a 6-6 Florida team get a Jan. 2 bowl game, particularly over Auburn, who won 1 more game and beat Florida? 'Bama fans will tell me to shut up and be grateful for the Peach Bowl game (yes, I still call it that) considering how lopsided all 5 of our losses were. Fair point. I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'...
