No joy in Blogville about UF-UA squared

From the Yahoo blogger Dr. Saturday, about the prospect of a Florida-Alabama SEC title game, followed by a rematch for the national championship ...

"The homers are already abuzz with the prospect of turning the Rose Bowl into the world's largest deer stand."

I had been thinking that a FL vs Bama rematch for the national championship would be so unfair to the team that won the SEC championship game, that it was not an real possibility. The winner of the SEC championship would have to beat the other team twice, but the loser wold only have to win 1 out of 2. But I guess if the BCS computers have Bama and FL ranked 1 & 2 after the SEC championship game, they will have to play again. To me that would discredit the entire BCS process. The only thing I can think of that would discredit it more this year would be a Boise St vs Cincinnati national championship game.

The loser of Florida-Alabama wouldn't have a shot at the title game. If either Texas, Cincinnati, or Iowa goes undefeated they HAVE to go to the championship game unless there are multiple undefeated BCS conference champions. If an undefeated BCS conference team doesn't make it to the title game in favor of a one-loss BCS conference team, the system loses any shred of credibility it had. Even if all of these teams suffer a loss between now and the championship game, I have to imagine the voters would favor a 1-loss Texas or a 1-loss USC over the loser in the SEC title game(sorry Cincinnati and Iowa).

A rematch would actually be good for all the non-SEC teams. It would save them from losing again.
