You can blame these type of penalties on the coaches. There is no reason at all that a player must celebrate in the end zone after scoring and then trying to bring attention to himself. This type of garbage has been going on too long. When a player costs his team a penalty because he wants to act like a juvenile, he would be sitting on the bench on my team.
Youre anonymous because youre a bonehead. Read the article next time or watch the celebration in question. People like the one who posted first are taking all the fun out sports because they are "sooo serious" and treat these games like its life or death. When do you celebrate???? This guy probably sits in his living room yelling and screaming for his favorite team but the players are supposed to show no emotion. All I can say is wow.....
While we're stopping the players from engaging in the garbage of expressing their joy and excitement when they do well on the field, let's do something about all that boisterous cheering from the people in the stands. The head of SEC officials has said that Green should not have been called for a penalty in this case. But that still doesn't answer the question of when a flag gets thrown and when it doesn't. It still feels way too random and vague. How can the players abide by a rule that is this ambiguous and nebulous? If the other rules and penalties on the field were this ill-defined and fuzzy, the game would become impossible to play.
I'm not a fan of either team but I love college football because of the emotion and excitement of the kids playing. If I wanted no emotion shown, I 'd attend a funeral. This was a pathetic call that probably changed the outcome of the game or at least made it a lot more easier for LSU; which cheapens the win for them and a bad loss for Ga which they feel cheated
All because of some stupid official
didn't like the celebration by young men who were giving their all
The explanation from the conference leaves me with the impression that the official was actively looking for a reason to throw the flag. He couldn't see from his angle that the player wasn't drawing attention to himself????? WHAT?????? When this idiot is officiating an Auburn game, he's going to throw the flag on Auburn's "hand the ball to the official" policy. He'lll say the Auburn scoring player is too self-serving in handing the ball to him.
Well, now that we know that these clowns are making it a point to search for reasons to call this penalty, rivialry weeks should be fascinating. Why don't we just save ourselves the trouble for the Egg Bowl, Iron Bowl, UGA-Ga Tech, and Fla-Fla St games and say before the games even start that every touchdown will result in a kick-off from the 15.
Can you post the video?
J, probably as good a solution to this ludicrous situation as any. Call a 15 yard penalty on every score. At least we'll eliminate the current randomness and have some consistency.
Officials should NEVER effect the outcome of any competition unless "flagrancy of action" is present in the form of taunting or possibility of injury. A.J. Green sprinted straight to his own teammates, so there was no taunting. There was no risk to the other team. It was a ridiculous call which degraded the men's efforts. There should be discipline forthcoming.
